Rating a RADical Mom

The end of the year is upon us. Tomorrow is the end of 2008. Can you believe it? The end of a year generally causes a lot of reflection about our lives. We like to beat ourselves up don't we? Maybe this year we can do it in a more constructive way.

What went right over the last year? What areas have we improved upon in our spiritual lives, marriage, friendships, parenting and in our dealing with RAD. How do we treat our bodies?

Each day is a new day. Heck. When parenting children with RAD each minute is a new minute.

Here are my reflections.

I am striving to have a quiet time each day where I read the Bible and a devotional. I need to improve this time, but I keep working on it.

I am spending more time in prayer.

I have had lunch with my husband every Monday night and strive to spend time with him every evening between 9 and 10.

I work hard to have a close relationship with my adult daughters without smothering or controlling. (some days better than others)

I love my friends and I think they all know it.

I am becoming a better listener.

I have a goal of working out 6 days a week. Since I started back to school I have only made it 2 or 3 but at least I didn't quit. I am working out 6 days a week since break started.

I am working on regulating myself when stressed. This is a moment by moment success.

I allow myself to make mistakes and I understand it does not mean I am a bad mom. I keep trying.

I never, never, never quit.

YES. I have had many failures over the past year. YES I will have many failures this year. Fortunately I have a God, a husband, a family and friends who are very forgiving. RADical Moms are an awesome group. I have admired each of you for your strength, honesty and courage over the past year.

Tomorrow we will talk about and make some plans for next year. Never, never, never quit.

Doesn't it put things into perspective when you do a list? So much has changed since our journey first began.

I am so grateful you're in my life!

Thanks for the post. It makes me think, and I need to make my own list and stick to some of those things I have been trying to improve and like you say: never quit. Thanks.

Never, never quit?!? You can say that even after the holidays? Just kidding!!! :) So now really, though, is it okay to quit for a day?

God has truly blessed us this year, but as far as the RAD goes, He is holding out on me. He must have more He wants me to learn and rely on Him for.

My list of items to be thankful for is long, however my goal for the new year is only one thing ~ to sit with patience while I wait for God to whisper my name and guide me in the direction He has chosen for me and my daughter.

He has a plan - I know He does - and someday I will understand why He has called me to be the mother of a child with such a severe and detrimental illness. But until then, I wait. I wait for His guidance.

It's been a long day - but after tomorrow, we will all get a new start. Bless you my friend for always finding so much positive for us to think about. I pray your new year will be filled with hope and healing for your boys and unspeakable joy for you and your family!

Love you Brenda!!!
