Medication

Medication is a tricky when it is for behavior, emotional or psychiatric reasons. Each medication works differently for each person and they work differently for children. Some are not approved for children but they prescribe them for kids anyway. Some medications work for ADHD. A child can have ADHD for a variety of reasons. It can be genetic. They can have a differenet disorder for which ADHD is a symptom. It is a symptom of RAD and is often caused by their fear, always being on the lookout for danger. That feeling of not being safe makes concentration and focus impossible. Then there is Sensory Integration Dysfunction (SID). There are problems with the central nervous system in SID.

Bear had quite a few problems at school yesterday. The issue stems from this. Last year he was in 4 core subjects in a special ed room. The other 5 or 6 kids in the room were quite a bit lower functioning than Bear. The classes were too easy for him. So they moved him into regular classes for everything this year. More people. More expectations. And we know how much our kids with RAD love change. Bear already takes medication for anxiety. We are thinking of raising it. I have giving my kids medication. I am pretty big on physical fitness, eating correctly, taking vitamins. I do not like medication. At this point I'm not sure what else to do for him. The list of classes where he is arguing to the point of being threatened is growing longer each day. A couple of the men teachers took him aside yesterday and explained to him what they are seeing and how he plays into the arguing. They expressed their fear for his safety and told him he needs to come to them if he is bullied so they can stop it. We will see what the day brings.

I just allowed Charlotte's dose of Concerta to be raised. It has been the same for 3 years. I think it will help. I also hate medications, but you have to do what they need.
