Hospitalization

I'm sorry I have been gone. We have had a tough week. Teddy has been in the hospital due to some pretty aggressive behavior and threats. He is coming home today. Meanwhile I have been looking for services. Magellan will not approve residential treatment unless the person has been admitted a few times. Or alternatives are to pay for residential ourselves or give up parental rights.  We are still working on the medicaid thing. I did find a group Right Turn. An organization in Nebraska that helps adoptive/foster families find services for their children. We will see what they can do.  We move one week tomorrow. I graduate on Sunday. No stress here.   And yet we keep on.....

I am so so sorry. I can't think of anything to say except I will pray for your family and your physical strength, that God will sustain you and give you wisdom. Just remember how much God loves you and your children.

Brenda, Here is another link: Kidlink.org

They help find residential placements for kids and will go to bat with your insurance company for you. I have a friend that used them that would talk to you about her experience if you want. Email me at jcwaters2002@yahoo.com if you do and I'll send you her contact info.

Keep swimming. xoxo

Praying for you here. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. It's not fun. We had a similar situation at one point. I hope the best for you all.

Check out Heartlight Ministries. I don't know much about them but I have heard that they are good for helping in situations like this.

Can you appeal the insurance company's denial? Gosh, I am so sorry. I have been where you are. It took a year to get my Younger Kid to treatment. I suggest bringing Teddy to the hospital every time he is physically aggressive towards another person. That is what we did, because there was just nothing else we could do. And eventually, we got him into treatment. My thoughts are certainly with you and your family.

(((HUGS))) Recently our daughter spent 5 weeks in a hospital after having suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors. She made no progress while there but was discharged while waiting for a mental health placement in a therapeutic foster home. We said she could not come back to our house because of her behaviors and threat to our other children. We had to give temporary custody to Children & Youth, and she is currently in a shelter. The foster home idea that the insurance company had didn't pan out -- no one will accept her with her behaviors -- so now they are looking at Residential Treatment Facilities. In the meantime, she is safe in a shelter and will hopefully get some help soon. The custody thing is only temporary and does not at all terminate our rights as parents. We have found Children and Youth to be very sympathetic to our situation and really partnering with us as parents. It is not at all what I thought it would be like.

I will be praying for you and your family! God bless you, and may He lead you and guide you in all your decisions and give you peace in the midst of this crazy time.

Wow, do you ever have a lot on your plate right now. Hope you are finding ways to keep your blood pressure down. Breathe and make sure you fit in some exercise and self-time. Hang in there. We'll all be thinking of you.

(Happy graduation! What an accomplishment!)

Ditto to what Advocate mom said!

When my son was in foster care Magellan paid for 7 months of RTC (our private insurance only paid for 4 days because we hadn't had him hospitalized first - max that most insurances cover was usually 6-8 weeks). We thought we'd found a big advantage to adopting from another state.

We had RTC coverage added to our adoption agreements because unlike NE, TX won't pay for RTCs. When my daughter went to the RTC after being hospitalized twice and in partial day hospitalization for 2.5 weeks (before we pulled her out because the place was horrible), our private insurance paid for about 6 days of RTC then decided she wasn't severe enough. The RTC held her for another 8 days while they appealed and we talked to Magellan about covering her. This time Magellan said, "if the private insurance doesn't pay for it then we won't either." WTH?!

The RTC paid for the remaining 8 days out of their own pocket if you can believe that! Luckily we found a new med that helped her and she didn't need to go back or we'd have had to start all over again.

Will have to check out Right Turn, but I doubt they can help me much here in TX.

Hugs and prayers!
