Finding Your Voice

In the class I am taking we are graded partially on class participation. The instructor keeps saying "Find your voice." as there are some who are a little quiet and don't participate so much. I would not be one of those. She said last night. "Some day you may have a client and you are the only voice they have." I started thinking about our boys. There have been so many times I have been their only voice. At school I speak for them and inform teachers of their needs. My boys don't know what they need. I search for doctors and therapists and specialists. If the first one I try is not right I find another. I am their voice. In social settings I keep them close, tell others what they need and don't cave. I am their voice. When they can't express their feelings I say "I see you are afraid." I am their voice even to themselves. Speak up for your child. They are confused and afraid. We are their voice for now but our goal is to help them find their own voice. Keep talking about their feelings even though it is very hard. There are times they refuse or deny. Keep talking anyway. We are their voice.

I love all of your insights! This one hits home in a different way, given my voice difficulties...

I needed to hear that today!!!

All I get from ds11 right now is, "No, I don't," "I am not sad!," "I am not mad!" "You don't know!" "Nu-uh!"

I never thought of it that way - but I guess it is what we are for them. Nice post! :)
