All the Colors We Are

A friend recently brought up the issue of adoption and racism. Many of our adopted children are of mixed race or a different race then the adoptive parents. Our boys began to ask early on why their skin was so dark. I bought this book from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/All-Colors-We-Are-colores/dp/0934140804/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209986621&sr=8-1 It is a child friendly scientific view of what causes the color of our skin. I think it was easy for my boys to understand and it took the emotion out of the issue. As far the emotion goes, I have taught my boys that their color is designed and created by God Himself. They are unique and should be happy with what they are created to be. I know they have received remarks from other kids about their skin color at times. People ask them what race they are. We don't even know for sure. We live in a world that is not accepting all the time of any differences and we have to teach our children to live in this world. I think working on attachment so they feel they belong and fit in is so important. They have to learn home is the place they are safe, loved unconditionally and accepted as they are. Seems simple to us but oh so very hard if you have RAD.
"Racism isn't born, folks, it's taught. I have a two-year-old son. You know what he hates? Naps! End of list."

We are all part of the human race with differing shades of melanin. Multi/Trans cultural "yes" for sure. I just don't see human beings of differing colors as different races.

http://www.answersingenesis.org does a great job with this subject manner...all subject manner....but this topic is pecific to this post.

I am so happy to have found your blog.

Blessings and Happy Mom Day :)
