Causes of RAD

Here are the causes of Reactive Attachment Disorder as listed by Nancy Thomas:

Causes
Any of the following conditions occurring to a child during the first 36 months of life puts them at risk:
Unwanted pregnancy
Pre-birth exposure to trauma, drugs or alcohol
Abuse (physical, emotional, sexual)
Neglect (not answering the baby’s cries for help)
Separation from primary caregiver (i.e. Illness or death of mother or severe illness or hospitalization of the baby, or adoption
On-going pain such as colic, hernia or many ear infections
Changing day cares or using providers who don’t do bonding
Moms with chronic depression
Several moves or placements (foster care, failed adoptions)
Caring for baby on a timed schedule or other self-centered parenting

Just because a baby experiences any of these does not guarantee RAD. A child with RAD has experienced one of the above however. There are also many levels of attachment. A child can have mild attachment issues and range all of the way up to full blown Reactive Attachment Disorder which is the inability to bond with mankind. I absolutely hate that my boys did not get this. I'd give anything to go back in time and give it to them. I can't so the next best thing is to love them as they are. Even if they can never love me back.

I *followed* you through Renee's blog. My kids do not have RAD, (as far as I know) but do have other major issues. Hope you don't mind me popping in!

Besides, maybe I can get you to do my shopping;)

lrc. We've been had! Sorry you found out this way Renee. And seriously, I am sorry A had 7 of those things occur. No baby should ever experience that.

Sorry Renee, didn't mean to *out* you this way.

So, will you do my shopping, or watch my kids? Which is the lesser of the evils....................

You know how I adore A. As does J. Of course, he is his own world......
