Journaling

Feelings....many people have trouble expressing them. Kids with RAD cannot because theirs are so complicated and they are so out of touch with them. So we have tried journaling about feelings many times with minimal success. At the seminar Nancy told how she does it. I tried it and it worked! After breakfast have them choose 3 feelings they had the day before. Choose from mad, sad, glad or scared. Rate each feeling as to how strong it was. We are using from 1-10. 1 meaning they didn't feel it much to 10 meaning they had a huge amount of it. Then write a sentence telling what was happening when they had the feeling. I made the illustration on the paper above and cut it out and taped it inside the front of their journals which are actually spiral notebooks. Give it a try if you have a child who has trouble talking about their feelings and you might be surprised.

Great idea Brenda! I'm just trying to think how I can simplify that and make it work for my little one. How are things today with your bear cubs today? I hope better. See you soon!

Things are not good today with the boys, esp A. She suggested younger kids draw a picture.
