Bilateral Stimulation

Bilateral stimulation is used in EMDR therapy and in some Occupational therapy.  I am going to leave some sites if you'd like more information. My "mom" definition is that it is an activity that stimulates both sides of the brain helping to calm the brain.

Is this the same or similar to bioneurofeedback?

RADMomNohio,

We are beginning neurofeedback with Teddy very soon. We are in the process of setting it up.

Here is the definition of Neurofeedback according to Wikipedia:

Neurofeedback (NFB), also called neurotherapy, neurobiofeedback or EEG biofeedback is a type of biofeedback that uses realtime displays of electroencephalography to illustrate brain activity, often with a goal of controlling central nervous system activity. Sensors are placed on the scalp to measure activity, with measurements displayed using video displays or sound.

I will have to read more about Bilateral Stimulation. It sounds like it has a similar idea as neurofeedback and my Penelope has been having neurofeedback sessions for almost 1 1/2 years and it's been so helpful, along with her other treatments, to help regulate her emotions and focus on tasks. Initially, they focused on the sides of her brain above her ears which they said are the trauma centers and have moved to other areas, like in the front that helps with recognition and being able to read people's emotions and body language. Something she has lacked and has contributed to her social issues. She interprets things incorrectly. But, she is substantially less volitile, and her ability to learn has increased so much. She was so behind and now she is at grade level. She was so emotionally distracted, she couldn't read more than a few paragraphs in a book and before she'd get to the 10th or 20th page she was done and "bored" with it. She finished her first entire book this past summer and has finished every book since then. I believe in it.
