Harpin'

I know I speak of this constantly. I'm doing it again. In Elizabeth Randall's book, Wounded Hearts Broken Minds she lists 3 things that all parents must do if they have children with RAD.
1. Take care of themselves
2. Take care of themselves
3. If in doubt, see #1 & #2
See. I am not the only one. This is a demanding job emotionally, financially and physcially. If you let yourself get run down and overwhelmed you cannot parent these kids. They are SOOOO good at pushing our buttons. When they see you overwhelmed and tired they do not think "Oh I am being too hard on mom. I should back off." They think "See. I knew she is too weak to be a mom. She cannot handle it. I have to do it myself." It also feeds to their disfunctional idea that you are not worthy of anything better. You are getting what you deserve. You need to show them that you are of value to God, your family and your friends. Take care of yourself this weekend and make sure your child with RAD knows about it!

You can never "harp" too much! It's the easiest thing to put on the backburner and the hardest thing to stay comitted to once you do bring it to the forefront. So, thanks for the reminder - again! :)

I like the way you showed me how they see it. That makes sense.
