How are you?

So how are you feeling today? What are you doing today to take care of yourself? Are you taking some time for a quiet time? I would love for you to share with me what you are doing for yourself today. I am meeting a friend for lunch. This evening when I drive the carpool to swim team I am meeting a friend for a latte at Starbucks. These things are not "extra". We need to take time to fill our cup with joy if we want to keep pouring ourselves into our families. We tend to think we will take some time for ourselves AFTER all the responsibilities are met. I say we can take better care of our responsiblities if we are emotionally charged FIRST.

Well since I knew they would be cleaning my carpets today and that I would have us exhiled to the kitchen, I hauled the loveseat in there so I could be comfy. Does that count? Oh - and I ate a brownie - ok - two brownies.

I know taking time for ourselves is important, but why does it make me feel so guilty?

HA! I always call guilt "The perfume of motherhood" It really stinks but we just keep spraying it on endlessly. I think we think we are being selfish. I think that depends on our motives. If we think "I'm putting me first." that would be one thing. If we think "I can take better care of my family if I refuel." that is entirely another. It is like filling a car with gas. For some reason we think we can keep going long after the tank is empty.
